Yes. By law, anyone doing gas work in Great Britain must be on the Gas Safe Register. You can check any engineer's ID card and record at gassaferegister.co.uk — mine is on the home page, including a QR code.
It's the record of the annual gas safety check that landlords in England must have for gas appliances and pipework in a rented property. I carry out the check and issue the certificate.
Most manufacturers recommend a service once a year to keep it safe, efficient and reliable. It's also usually needed to keep the warranty valid.
